Situated in the heart of London, Bloomsbury is world famous for its literary and artistic heritage. The area lies between the vibrantly active West End and the commercially bustling City of London. Bloomsbury is renowned for its elegant period buildings and attractive garden squares. Much of the area has been owned, developed and managed by The Bedford Estates since 1669.
Kenyon was contracted by the Estates to undertake two years of planned maintenance and specialist restoration to the building stock in Bedford and Russell Squares. The major part of the building fabric was restored to the high standards demanded by the fine architecture of these celebrated locations
Ensuring day-to-day access to the squares' properties presented a particular challenge, since the buildings remained in full use throughout the works period. Many were occupied by commercial organisations. The solution was demonstrated to lie in detailed and flexible programming combined with frequent consultation with occupants. Happily, total client satisfaction was achieved.
